Dick and Doug DeVos Announced as 2012 DSA Hall of Fame Inductees

April 5, 2012
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, D.C. – (April 5, 2012) The Direct Selling Association (DSA) announced that Dick and Doug DeVos, second generation leaders of Amway, will receive the direct selling industry’s highest honor – induction into the DSA Hall of Fame – during DSA’s Awards Gala event on June 5. The Gala will be held as part of the Association’s 2012 Annual Meeting, June 3-5, in Grapevine, Texas.

Through their support and leadership of DSA, the Direct Selling Education Foundation (DSEF) and the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA), the DeVos brothers have demonstrated their commitment not only to the success of millions of Amway Distributors, but also to the future of the entire sales channel in the U.S. and around the world. “The leadership and vision Dick and Doug DeVos have provided to the Direct Selling Association over many years made their induction into the DSA Hall of Fame an obvious choice. The tireless efforts of both of these extraordinary men to serve the interests of not only Amway, but the entire direct selling community, has been a source of inspiration, and I am personally gratified to be able to announce their selection,” said DSA President Joseph Mariano.

Sons of Amway Co-Founder Rich DeVos, these two phenomenal leaders have worked to continue the legacy their father and Jay Van Andel began in 1959. Doug, who has been President of Amway since 2002, has worked tirelessly to build enthusiasm for the company both domestically and internationally. Under Dick’s leadership as president from 1993-2002, the company opened new markets and tripled international sales to exceed domestic sales for the first time in company history.

The brothers have each served as Chairman of the DSA Board of Directors. Doug has served as DSEF Chairman and was presented with the DSEF Circle of Honor Award in 2009, which recognizes industry leaders, academicians, and consumer advocates who have made extraordinary contributions to the Foundation through personal efforts, involvement, and commitment to the mission and purpose of DSEF. Dick has served as Chairman of WFDSA, and Doug currently serves as WFDSA Treasurer.

About the Direct Selling Association

DSA is the national trade association of the leading firms that manufacture and distribute goods and services sold directly to consumers. Among its more than 250 active and pending members are companies selling both via a party plan method and in the traditional person-to-person style. In 2010, U.S. direct sales were nearly $29 billion with more than 15.8 million direct sellers nationwide. The vast majority are independent business people – micro-entrepreneurs – whose purpose is to sell the product/service of the company they voluntarily choose to represent. Approximately 90 percent of direct sellers operate their business part-time. For more information on direct selling, DSA and its Code of Ethics, please visit the DSA website at www.dsa.org.
