Founded in 1973, the Direct Selling Education Foundation (DSEF) stands up for consumers and champions ethical entrepreneurship through its partnerships with consumer advocates, educators and students, public policy officials, and the small business and entrepreneurship communities. DSEF’s programs engage and educate the public on the ways direct selling empowers individuals, supports communities and strengthens economies worldwide.

The spirit of partnership is central to every relationship and program the Foundation undertakes. It is through these relationships that DSEF develops programs to help create a market climate of trust for the direct selling industry.

DSEF is the public service arm of the Direct Selling Association a 501(c)(3) and is supported entirely by voluntary contributions. DSEF is tax exempt and all financial and in-kind contributions are tax deductible.

The World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA) is a nongovernmental, voluntary organization that represents the direct selling industry globally. Its membership is composed of national direct selling associations in 60 countries and one regional federation. The U.S. Direct Selling Association serves as the secretariat for the World Federation.

The objective of SELDIA is to represent all forms of direct selling in Europe and to ensure that EU and national policy makers in Europe are aware of its benefits and advantages, as well as its contribution to national economies.

The first national direct selling associations were created in the UK, Germany, France, Belgium and Italy. In 1968, these associations founded a Federation, under the name of "Fédération de la Vente et du Service à Domicile" or FEVSD.

In 1991, FEVDS changed its name in "Federation of European Direct Selling Associations" – FEDSA, which at that time represented 15 member DSAs.

In 2011, FEDSA changed its name to SELDIA and is the leading association representing the direct selling industry in Europe.

It represents 27 Member DSAs of which 22 are in EU Member States, and 14 Corporate Members (companies).
